Intento de venta de Jupiter Ace (Marca y legado)

Mensajepor ron » 15 May 2014 12:16

The entire iconic Jupiter ACE project - including the brand itself

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/The-entire-ic ... 4ad48dc15b

This is the sale of the entire Jupiter ACE project – the iconic brand itself, and a treasure trove of absolutely unique and original historic items from the legendary 1980’s microcomputer era.

Created by vexed Spectrum designers Steve Vickers & Richard Altwasser (“Clive Sinclair was making all this money out of us, why shouldnt we just make our own computer and make the money for ourselves” - Vickers) the Jupiter ACE home computer was the most intriguing product of the era, running programs ten times faster than the usual BASIC and using less memory to do so.

But unfortunately for its inspired makers, the Jupiter ACE wasn’t chosen by the fledgling games market, which led to the financial collapse of the new company and its subsequent rescue by another Cambridge startup, Boldfield Computing – who re-targeted the micro at enthusiasts with a new range of software and accessories, and then went on to support the ACE into old age.

With the key players themselves now heading into retirement, the opportunity to own this famous marque is up for grabs.

This is a remarkable investment opportunity at several levels, because not only does the buyer get a valuable collection of original unsold Jupiter ACE stock, but also ALL the irreplaceable master tapes and unpublished works, a catalogue of priceless historic documentation, AND ownership of this famous brand.

Full details are at http://www.theJupiterAce.co.uk

Ebay Notes:

The eBay member ID jupiter-ace-project has been specifically created just to handle this one special auction.

eBay has verified the seller status and authorised an appropriate financial limit not normally granted to new (zero feedback) accounts.

To achieve international coverage, the auction has been listed on ebay.com rather than ebay.co.uk, but buyers should note that the sale is nonetheless being made in the United Kingdom with an expectation that the buyer will be able to attend a handover and collection in the Cambridge UK area at a date to be agreed.

Whilst priced in US Dollars , the sale will be made in GB Pounds. Cleared funds will be required, so bank transfer is a suggested payment method.

Atentos !

https://www.justgiving.com/Jupiter-Ace

Story

The iconic Jupiter Ace computer that was developed in Cambridge has a great story behind it. Developed by ex-Sinclair employees, the computer used FORTH as its language of choice but sadly was a commercial failure.

** Update **
We have very generously been donated an additional £1000 via CAF to go towards this campaign. This will not show in the goal here. Thank you to everyone that has donated so far. We really appreciate it.

The entire company collection is being sold on eBay and includes original documentation, software and even the rights to the brand.

See : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/The-entire-ic ... 1400883511

Also see : http://www.thejupiterace.co.uk/

We are trying to raise the money to purchase and preserve the collection at the Cambridge Centre for Computing History where it belongs.

But we need your help. We need to raise £10k to be able to make a bid for it. If we are unsuccessful we will ring fence the funds for a future exhibit purchase.

We are unable to set-up this appeal on Kickstarter as it does not support charities. Not only that but doing it through Just Giving will give us an extra 25% via Gift Aid.

Please help us preserve this important Cambridge history.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

PD.

http://jupiter-ace.com/

… and now the Jupiter Ace rises again:

The original Boldfield directors retained the Jupiter ACE project, along with a treasure trove of its historic artifacts, and now on the 30th anniversary of them taking over the reins, they decided the time has come to pass on this iconic brand, and this fascinating collection, to a new owner.

This unique collection not only represents everything “Jupiter ACE”, but is also a full set of brilliant examples of their genre – from that epic era when a generation of computers was built in bedrooms, quality control was a cardboard box where the working tapes were kept, and for a lucky few, a 10p cassette would earn them a fortune.

The new owners of the brand Andrews UK Limited will work with others not only to preserve the past, but also work on the future of the brand…

Volver a “Jupiter Ace”
